NextPlay Raises $600,000 in Second Seed Round

Denver, CO NextPlay, a trusted provider of comprehensive career success software and solutions for athletics organizations, announced this week that it has raised $600,000 in equity financing from angel investors. Among the investors are former professional athletes, an NBA executive, and an experienced sports technology CEO.

The lead investor in the round is Jeff Fox of Circumference Group. He is the former President and Chief Executive Officer of Endurance International Group Holdings. Fox shares NextPlay’s belief in the power of sports, the value of strong networks, and the importance of human capital to business success. He is particularly interested in identifying new and more effective ways to provide workforce development at scale.

“At Circumference Group, we have always believed in the value of human capital and the vital role that it plays in building and maintaining strong businesses,” Fox said. “We are excited to support NextPlay as they strive to improve athlete outcomes and prepare the next generation of leaders for success in life after sports.”

The funding will allow NextPlay to make additions to their team while also making critical enhancements to their fast-growing software platform. As the elite athletics market recovers from a challenging year, technology solutions like the NextPlay platform will help to drive the industry forward.

“After the challenges of 2020, our partners across elite athletics have a renewed appreciation for the importance of connectivity and lasting engagement with their current and former athletes,” said Kyle Mumma, Founder & CEO of NextPlay. “We are excited to continue providing value to stakeholders across the industry with fundraising and connectivity tools for teams, networking and job search functionality for employers, and a connected ecosystem that leads to better long-term outcomes for athletes.”

This is NextPlay’s second round of financing since inception in 2018. The first round closed in April, 2020 and included 2005 NBA Rookie of the Year Emeka Okafor, a technology executive from a multi-billion dollar software company, and a managing partner from a venture capital firm.
